Conversations with Dad

ree

“Daddy! Daddy!” A little voice cried

“What is it, my sweetie pie?” Daddy replied

“I brushed my knee on the curb and fell on my side.”

“Oh my goodness!” feeling her pain he sighed

“Don’t worry, everything will be alright.”

The calm in his voice dispelling all fright

Hand in hand, they went to the first aid kit

Dad’s gentle hands worked softly and neat

“It’s all good now, off you go,” said Dad

She jumped off his knee trotting and glad

Then she spun around all at once and gave Dad a hug

“What’s that for, my cute ladybug?”

“Nothing, it’s just that you are my number one fan

And you ease every tear as only a father can.”

“Daddy! Daddy!” Her teenage voice was mild

“What’s up sweetie pie?” Daddy replied

“I’m sorry to bother or do I call back later?”

“You sound upset, what’s the matter?”

“I’m in a quandary, I don’t know what to do

So, I decided to call and talk it over with you.”

“Girl emergency, or can it wait?”

“I’m afraid, it’s urgent, I won’t want to be late.”

“I’m to see clients at five, but tell me what’s on your mind.”

He listened and reasoned till she was out of the bind

“Thanks a lot, Dad, thanks for your time.”

“Any day, cute ladybug, but why so sublime?”

“Nothing, it’s just that you are my number one fan

And you ease every fear as only a father can.”

“Daddy! Daddy!” A young woman now, but still his child

“The lovely face of my sweetie pie,” Dad replied

“Remember Justin who teaches kids in church?”

“Yeah, the one who took you last week to lunch.”

“He is starting to get in my heart a special spot.”

“Not sure he’s the one.” she fiddled with her cloth

“Have you prayed and asked the Lord?” Daddy inquired

“I prayed, but my feelings get in the way of what is required.”

Daddy smiled, “I’ve prayed over you from your first day

God’s hand is on you, He’ll show you the way”

“Oh Daddy” she cried planting a kiss on his head

“My cute ladybug, was it something I said?”

“No Dad, you know I’m your number one fan

And you ease every care as only a father can.”
